This page will briefly review some important details about saddle stitched books, their similarities and differences from other binding types.
The binding
Saddle stitched books consist of at least 2 sheets of paper, folded in half and stapled together. Unlike our other binding options, there is no glue involved. This means the book will lay flatter than other types of books, so running text and photographs across the binding has less of an impact. Spreads in the middle will have a visible staple, but the art will be seamless other than the fold.

The cover.
Saddle stitched books are “self-covering”. This means there is no difference in paper between the cover and the rest of the book. In our other soft cover books, a heavier, bright white, coated board stock is used, and then laminated, regardless of the interior paper stock. The cover for saddle stitch books will not be laminated. If you select the 60 lb Opaque your cover page will also be on 60lb Opaque stock.
Just like all our other binding styles, full color cover printing is always included in your price. Saddle stitch books automatically include duplex printing on the cover, meaning there is no “unprinted back side” of your cover like there would be on a standard, non-duplex soft cover. If you choose black interior printing, that limitation would begin on the first page of your manuscript file. If you want to start counting your pages at your cover, that means 1(cover) and 2(inside of front cover) will be printed in color, and 3 will start printing in black only.
Trim size and page count requirements
Saddle stitch is currently available on Landscape 9”x7”, Square 8.5”x8.5”, US Trade 6”x9” and US Letter 8.5”x11” trim sizes.
There is a maximum of 32 pages for the manuscript file and 4 pages in the cover file, giving you a total of a potential 36 pages. The page count must be a multiple of 4.

Staples are .5"
Landscape 9”x7” staples begin .875" from the top and bottom
Square 8.5”x8.5” staples begin 1.25" from the top and bottom
US Trade 6”x9” staples begin .1.5" from the top and bottom
US Letter 8.5”x11” trim sizes staples begin 2.5" from the top and bottom
