If your file lacks bleed, the optimal solution involves correcting it within your layout file for superior results. However, if you encounter difficulties rectifying the absence of bleed, we may be able to help.
Regarding your manuscript, we may be able to employ an automated solution to mirror the section of the page nearest to the trim line to fill in the bleed. While not ideal, it generally enhances the outcome compared to printing a manuscript with no bleed.
If you wish for OnPress to address the lack of bleed in your book files, contact our support team (support@onpressbookprinting.com) to add one or both services to your order. They will configure the order to provide a PDF proof for you to approve, before proceeding to print.
Keep in mind the following drawbacks associated with using the mirrored bleed fill on your manuscript, and that these do not apply to cover templating:
Mirrored artwork may reverse elements extending off the page, resulting in a change in direction for lines and shapes.
Any part of a face or object continuing off the edge may appear duplicated.
The degree of distraction in the final trimmed result is likely less pronounced than in the digital proof containing all the bleed. In the printed piece, the filled-in bleed may be minimally visible.
